The first quarter is nearing the end and the budget for the ’23/’24 term has been released.  How will that effect you as the buyer?  Some welcome relief has been extended with a 10% increase in the transfer duty table, now only starting at purchase prices of R 1 100 000 and above.

So what savings does this mean for the buyer?  Looking at the table below as an indication, this shows a saving of just under R 11 000 for a property in in the region of R2.5 million and R 18 400 for properties between R 2 722 501 & R 12 100 000.

Although these measures taken by the finance minister does bring some much needed relief, the general public still suffer major burden’s as a result of the dire state of Eskom and our energy crisis.  The relief extended regarding tax incentives for investing in solar energy is a move in the right direction, however still a long way from making it a viable consideration, with only a 25% rebate on solar panels up to an amount of R 15 000 and only being available for one year.  Entry level solar solutions for homes can range anywhere from R 75 000 up to R 200 000, of which the panels are only a portion of the total expense and the biggest cost lying with the batteries in a hybrid system, to ensure power during loadshedding.
Thankfully many of the major banks are starting to offer products on homeloan applications to assist with your solar investment.  These are all signs pointing toward a positive movement with regards to solar energy.

The South African public can only hope that the new cabinet and the measures put in place to focus on solving the energy crisis, will have a positive outcome.  Unfortunately it will be a long road to reach an satisfactory result.
